Although traffic has increased considerably in all of them compared to the previous year, only the Avenue des Champs-Elysées in Paris is above precovid levels, with a 23% increase in traffic.
Berlin’s Kurfürstendamm is down 12%, followed by Gran Via (-38%), Rome’s Via Corso (-44%), Amsterdam’s Leidsestraat (-47%), London’s Oxford Street (-59%) and Brussels’ Rue Neuve (-64%) compared to before the pandemic.
The report shows that despite new uncertainties such as the war in Ukraine and inflation, visitors have returned to the streets and in the first months of 2022 all major streets showed much higher traffic levels than in 2021: two and a half times more in Amsterdam, twice as much in Rome and almost twice as much in London.
On the other hand, major international brands such as Uniqlo and Ikea, in Madrid and London respectively, are opening large flagship stores. In addition, new concepts are emerging, such as the new Gran Vía shopping center, the Wow Concept, which offers its customers an experience that unites the physical and online worlds.
